South Africa is one of the world’s natural gems; a treasure nestled at the southern tip of the abundant African continent. Visitors from all around the world descend on the country to take advantage of the stunning climate, accommodation, hotels, game reserves, natural attractions, and, of course, the huge variety of wildlife.
The landscapes of South Africa offer the full spectrum of habitat types (from dense green forests to arid deserts, and everything in-between), making them ideal for thousands of species. These include exciting predators, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and a huge variety of fascinating insects. These different species are found in plentiful abundance in the game reserves and national parks of the country, as well as in the wild and natural countryside, where they live free.

The Big 5 is one of the main attractions to South Africa in terms of its wildlife. This group includes the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Lion, Black Rhino, and Leopard. This combination of predator and mighty terrestrial mammals makes for a once-in-a-lifetime sighting of some of the world’s most impressive species.
BIRD LIFE
South Africa is home to approximately 175 endemic bird species, as well as hundreds more species. Notable endemic varieties include the Black Oystercatcher, Blue Crane, Cape Parrot, Cape Vulture, Forest Canary, Ground Woodpecker, Jackal Buzzard, Knysna Turaco, Namaqua Sandgrouse, Protea Seedeater, Southern Bald Ibis, Southern Pale Chanting Goshawk, Whitebacked Mousebird, and the Yellow-breasted Pipit.

Avian enthusiasts are well-rewarded when they visit this country, and are reminded to bring their binoculars and identification aids.

MAMMALS
There are about 230 mammal species to be found in South Africa, which include a collection of impressive predators. These make for fabulous sightings on any game drive or safari. Of these hundreds of species, there are two that are critically endangered (De Winton’s Golden Mole and the Riverine Rabbit) and 11 that are endangered (including the African Wild Dog, the Mountain Zebra, Sei Whale and Blue Whale). These numbers are in line with the IUCN statistics.

Endemic mammals include the Cape Elephant Shrew, Cape Mole-rat, Cape Grysbok, Bontebok, Cape Kudu, Springbok and the Cape Horseshoe Bat.

Spent some quality time with the African Wild Cat at Cheetah Experience when volunteering. I honestly thought these kittens were someones house cat that gave birth and for sale. They ed and looked exly like a common domesticated house cat. They played, purred, showed affection, got scared, growled, and kneaded like a common house cat. And that is because I believe much of the gentic link to the domesticated house cat came from these guys. The only time I saw the WILD in them was during feeding. Hunger and feeding is a strong natural force for a wild animal. These Africa Wild Cats were no different.\r

Wild cats are normally larger than your average house cat as well. They can also be identified by the orange striped bands that loop around their necks and chest.\r
\r
I always find kneading behavior fascinating as well as the chatter call cats make. The primary purpose of the kneading ritual is to stimulate and move milk from the mammary glands of the mother. The motion stimulates it. Then the cats suckle the teat for milk. These kittens are beyond milk or suckling, but as they were taken from their mother early, they never lose the habit. Adult Cheetahs suckle even.\r

The chatter noises are interesting. Ive not seen it but from domesticated cats before. Not many do it. It was interesting to catch these African Wild Cats doing it and the f all of them did. It is very instinctive and has a purpose. Most think it is to mimic their prey, like birds to get them to come closer so they can catch them. I can believe that theory. It definitely has a purpose.\r

Cárteles mexicanos van tras expansión mundial

La expansión de los cárteles de la droga mexicanos continúa su paso a nivel internacional, a pesar de los golpes recibidos por el gobierno del país que mantiene una férrea lucha por el debilitamiento de las organizaciones desde hace más de cuatro años.

Las capturas de ciudadanos mexicanos en Estados Unidos, Latinoamérica, Europa, Asia y África en escaramuzas como tránsito de enervantes en lanchas rápidas, en "mulas", como sembradores e intermediarios en la compra y venta de droga durante el 2010 mantiene la alerta en diversas naciones.

"Los narcotraficantes en México también se han vuelto productores y compradores en la misma dinámica de la globalización, donde se hace de todo para ganar mercado, no se conforman con vender a los estadounidenses o con comprar la droga a los colombianos, sino que se mueven en todas las latitudes", observa José Fernández Santillán, analista del Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey.

El abandono de perros en el campo, aparte de suponer un acto de crueldad por parte de quienes lo llevan a cabo, provoca que muchas especies salvajes y domésticas se vean seriamente perjudicadas. Lógicamente, los perros no tienen la culpa de ello. Además, son víctimas de enfermedades, atropellos, disparos, envenenamientos y toda clase de maltratos. Si eres dueño de un perro y te quieres desprender de él, jamás lo abandones. Si lo haces, demostrarás ser una persona ruin y despreciable.
